The feeling when you have a clean sensor in your camera — priceless (or at least worth 40 euros)!
I don’t know if you remember when I already complained about my dusty sensor after the trip to the US last fall?
The sky on Miami beach wasn’t that clear through my camera last September.
That’s when I first noticed it. I’ve had the camera for five years and it’s never been cleaned so I guess this isn’t that surprising, considering all the corners of the world I’ve carried it with me.
Since fall I’ve taken my camera and it’s manual in to my hands a few times with the intentions to clean the sensor, but I’ve chickened out. Of course I tried the automatic cleaning function also multiple times… I also tried to spray compressed air into the camera, which according to some Google-sources is a MISTAKE. Don’t do that. It might actually make the dust go deeper into the camera, in other words: make it harder or impossible to clean.
As you might have noticed, I like to use big aperture when I take pictures (from f1.8 to f5 etc.) so occasionally I’ve happily forgot I had that problem. The dust is usually invisible then. But taking bright scenery pictures in Budapest and using a small aperture was a real wake up call. I couldn’t stand it anymore, I had to seek professional help. 😀
The problem was this bad in Budapest… I know.
I left my camera to a camera service for 24 hours, paid 40 euros and it was totally worth it. I haven’t taken this neat pictures in a while! 😉 By myself I probably would have destroyed the whole camera trying to get it clean. I’m just glad my compressed air -tests didn’t do that yet.
Look at that clean sky!
From now on I’m for sure paying closer attention to storing my camera too. For example, I won’t let it stay on the table unprotected from dust anymore!
It’s like a full-time job going through pictures from a three weeks trip. But I survived the first few hundred shots, so here’s vacation-Florida through my lens (which btw, judging by few of the shots, needs cleaning! Or then there’s … Continue reading →
I’m having the worst jet lag ever. I’ve been in Finland since Monday, and I think I am still far away from my normal energy level. Or then I’m just getting old, because it didn’t use to be this hard, did it? Though I’m excited, the thought of starting a new job on Monday, and waking up to work at 8 AM EVERYDAY, feels almost absurd. 😀 Well, I will hopefully get there after a peaceful weekend.
The heat in California and Miami feels also like it was forever ago, I need a winter jacket and gloves! Fortunately there’s all the pictures that I can watch and get the warm moments back at least for a second. And luckily I have my lap-warmer – my puppy Urho – here to keep me warm.
I still wouldn’t complain to get back in some of these moments and places again… I’ll try to upload more pictures when I’m not too tired to function.
What a crazy few days ahead: tomorrow last day of work, Saturday moving back to Tampere and the night between Sunday and Monday off to Miami! I just somehow can’t grasp the idea that this time next week I’m somewhere in Florida Keys, already planning the flight to LA. OMG!
In this past few weeks I’ve purchased some small items that I’ve dreamed of already for a while now… And now had a great excuse to buy them, to make traveling even better and more comfortable (well, I’m sure this trip is amazing anyways).
(Sorry for the pictures bad quality, I’m so busy packing I didn’t have time to make the light conditions better… I know, I’m one lousy photographer.)
Little black dress, a jewelry container in travel size. I like to use a lot of different earrings, but I always lose them to the bottom of the suitcase, so this it perfect.
New suitcase! And the best part is, it can be extended from the middle, so if I shop a little too much on the trip… no problem! Four wheels make sure carrying a heavy back-bag is history.
Last but not least, a tablet! I’ve dreamed of this since spring and finally gave in to my craving. Maybe I don’t have to live in a blog silence now for the whole three weeks. So next time you hear from me, I might be updating from a beach in Florida, or from the heart of Hollywood, who knows 😉
On Monday morning, all of these items are in action for real! My route for the next weeks goes pretty much like this: Miami-Florida Keys-Miami-LA-Grand Canyon-San Fransisco-LA-Minneapolis(Minnesota)-Helsinki-Tampere. IIIIIIIH!
